Artist in Residence, Bankside Hotel #banksidearticons Summer 2021

Julie Bennett has now completed her Contemporary Collective residency at Bankside Hotel, an independent 5-star hotel set on the culturally vibrant South Bank in London, for anyone with a passion for culture, art and high-quality food. Julie will be creating a series of portrait paintings #banksidearticons inspired by art icons who have influenced or inspired the artist’s life and practice.

The working artist studio was open to the public from 21 June through to 1 August.

The #banksidearticons series included a combination of both historical and contemporary art icons. Painting both the famous and not so famous, Julie hoped to provide the viewer with an insight into the artists’ lives from an educational and engaging approach. Overall, her aim was to introduce viewers to the sometimes unknown face of the artist behind well known, iconic pieces of art.

All works created during the residency are available exclusively on Julie’s DegreeArt page. They are also shown below.

JULIE BENNETT Instagram takeover of @Contemporary Collective

Julie took over the @Contemporary Collective Instagram account during her residency to document her experience as an artist in residence giving daily updates of the work created in the studio. The aim was to post ‘work in progress’ photographs each day, whether in posts, stories or reels to experience the colourful, inspiring, exciting and sometimes challenging life of a passionate artist. You can see some of the posts on this page just below the residency events.
