Had a great second weekend at Dulwich Artists' Open House, actually this has been my most enjoyable Open House to date. This second weekend offered new challenges to the first including three double portraits. What if one of the sitters likes the finished piece and not the other? Also, when in conversation they would talk to each other so getting two pairs of eyes to focus in my direction was tricky sometimes. I had to change sitting positions for the double portraits so in hindsight I would set up my space to allow room for another sitter's chair to be added if need be so that I didn't have to keep changing positions. I loved the experience of drawing two faces at the same time and switching between each face and thinking about how to keep the proportions of each model balanced.
I think it went very well and I learned a lot from both weekends about the emotional investment of the sitter when they are being drawn and the deep concentration I needed to see my lines. I am so thankful to all who sat for me and were open enough to see what a drawing of themselves might reveal.
I am planning two days of #haveyourportraitdrawn at my studio on the Old Kent Road in June. If you are interested, please email.
